Film critic, programmer and script supervisor, he writes constantly since 2009. Shawky is publishing weekly articles in AL-KAHERA newspaper and FILFAN website, besides various contributions to different prints and websites including ARAB CINEMA and DOHA CULTURAL magazines. He published three books: DIALOGUES WITH DAOUD ABDEL SAYED, TABOO IN EGYPTIAN CINEMA BY THE 1980S GENERATION and HELMY HALIM… A STORY FROM HERE.

He was the chief programmer of Ismailia International Festival for Documentaries and Shorts and the feature film programmer of Luxor European and Egyptian Film Festival. Shawky is currently the assistant artistic director of Cairo International Film Festival and the secretary general of Egyptian Film Critics Association (EFCA), a FIPRESCI member. Jury member in Locarno, Malmo, Oran, Original Narrative (Dubai) and Mansoura festivals. Also for Etisal Film Fund, Alexandria Festival Script Contest and Goethe Institute Cairo article competition.

He co-founded CLOCKWORK TEMPTATION script house through which he supervised the scripts of many successful TV series including HOUSE SECRETS, SUPERMAN'S DAUGHTERS, WORDS ON PAPER AND INNOCENT INTENTIONS.
